HVAC Technician Jobs in Northern Michigan

We’re Hiring People Who Want to do the Work Right

If you’re a plumber, HVAC technician, or trades professional who takes pride in diagnosing problems correctly and treating customers well, you may have just found the career you’re looking for.

At AAM Plumbing & Heating, your primary focus is residential HVAC: servicing, diagnosing, and repairing heating and cooling systems. You’ll also service gas fireplaces. If that sounds like a stretch, it isn’t. Gas fireplaces rely on the same diagnostic, venting, combustion, and safety principles you already use every day. The crossover is natural, and we’ll make sure you’re confident in it.

Every service call is different. That keeps the work engaging and gives you room to keep growing. The skills you build here, across plumbing, HVAC, and fireplace systems, will make you a more versatile technician and set you apart in your career.

We’re a locally-owned company based in Traverse City. Small enough that every person on the team is valued and trusted, yet established enough that you’ll have the support and resources to do the job right.

If you’re dependable, take pride in your work, and want to be part of a team that values integrity, quality, and customer satisfaction, we’d like to meet you.

Now Hiring: HVAC & Fireplace Service Technician

HVAC service technician jobs are about solving problems that others can’t. AAM’s Home Comfort Technicians answer calls across plumbing, HVAC, and fireplace systems: troubleshooting issues, communicating clearly with customers, and delivering solutions that are built to last. No two days are the same, and the job rewards people who think on their feet and take pride in doing the job right.

You’ll work in customers’ homes and businesses. That means showing up prepared and treating the space with respect, because you’re representing AAM from the moment you walk in the door.

What the Work Requires

What this role requires is a problem-solving mindset, solid mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work independently while knowing when to ask for help. Experience in plumbing, HVAC, or a related trade is helpful but not required.

If you have the right instincts and a strong work ethic, we’ll train you on the rest.

The Kind of Person We’re Looking For

Experience and character matter here. We’re looking for someone who:

  • Enjoys diagnosing problems others can’t figure out
  • Takes ownership of the work from start to finish
  • Communicates clearly with customers and teammates
  • Shows up calm and organized, even when the job doesn’t go as planned
  • Is coachable and committed to getting better at the craft
  • Leads by example rather than waiting to be told what to do

A few things that don’t work here: doing the minimum, avoiding customers, looking for shortcuts, or viewing service as fixing equipment rather than helping people. We’re looking for trusted advisors, not just technicians.

What We Offer

  • Health insurance
  • Holiday pay
  • Overtime pay (time and a half beyond 40 hours)
  • Incentive pay
  • Retirement planning
  • Ongoing training, including manufacturer and vendor certifications when applicable
  • Advancement opportunities for those who demonstrate leadership

Room to Grow

AAM Plumbing & Heating is a smaller company, which means advancement looks different here than it would at a large contractor. For the right person, moving up means transitioning from crew member work toward supervising and mentoring a crew of your own. Less physical labor over time. More responsibility. The path is real. It takes time and commitment, but it’s available to you.

Why People Stay

Several members of our team have been with AAM for over a decade. That kind of loyalty doesn’t happen by accident. It comes from creating a workplace where people feel valued, supported, and proud of the work they do.

What keeps people here isn’t complicated. It’s the environment. This isn’t a large corporation where your input filters up through layers of management and disappears. When you have a better approach to a job, say so. Your voice matters here.

The crew dynamic is closer to a team that looks out for each other than a group of coworkers who happen to share a truck. There’s flexibility when life requires it. There’s support when the job gets complicated. And there’s a standard of work that people take pride in. Not because they’re told to, but because that’s who they are.

AAM is built around the idea that a good career should support a good life, not compete with it. The people here believe that. It shows in how they work and how they treat each other.
